The Programme

A research lab recently funded to develop therapeutic stimulation for spinal cord injury rehabilitation has an opening for a full-time research assistant. The position is in a neuroscience laboratory at the CUNY School of Medicine at City College of New York. The lab studies development of the motor systems and repair of the motor systems after injury in pre-clinical studies with animals. The successful applicant will have a lead role in animal training and behavioral assessment.

A second key component is to assist with the anatomical analyses of the central nervous system.

What you will Do

  • Assist in training animals to perform motor tasks and in the analyses of limb movements
  • Assist in microscope imaging and in neuroanatomical analyses
  • Assist in general lab management

Required Skills and Abilities

  • BS/BA; in Biology, Biomechanics, Psychology or related field is preferred
  • Ability to work with a team of scientists and students
  • Ability to prioritize goals and keep well-organized records
  • Willing to be trained to perform laboratory tasks in a safe and timely fashion
  • The applicant will work with animals and must be willing to be trained to do so
  • Knowledge of basic computing, including the ability to work with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word is essential
  • Experience with general computer use and networking is helpful
  • Experience working with animals and previous laboratory experience, such as with microscopy, are desired but not required. Training and support will be provided
