At GradConnection, we’re constantly striving to provide our university partners with opportunities to understand and capitalize on global recruiting trends and develop meaningful connections with top employers. So naturally we’re excited to once again host our annual International Students Employability Summits. Now in their third year, the Summits serve as an opportunity for career services professionals from across the globe to come to Shanghai and Hong Kong to build their knowledge of the growing Asian employment markets, network with regional employers and gain useful insights on recruiting strategies and timelines.
While both Summits will provide opportunities for ample learning and employer engagement, each will have a distinct flavor. The Shanghai Summit (August 12-13) will focus on economic developments and the future of jobs in China; the Hong Kong Summit (August 15-16) will focus on Asia region and India. While attendees can attend either Summit, we have positioned them so that attendees can participate in both. In fact, roughly 70% of last year’s attendees did just that.
Based on feedback from previous Summit participants – this year’s Summits have been completely redesigned with the goal of providing more opportunities to learn from knowledge experts and develop a network of industry connections. To this end, we’ve added site visits with local employers where attendees will learn how local companies recruit and retain talent. Participants will also learn from the insights of recently hired international returnees who successfully navigated the job search as a degree seeking student studying abroad.
We’re keenly aware that with global international student enrollment at its highest level ever, institutions and other stake holders expect career services leaders to provide international students with more support and access to opportunities. This is why we structured the Summits to serve as a forum for career services leaders to exchange ideas and discuss challenges and solutions around employability. We want participants to envision ways of leading their institution’s efforts - to go beyond the surface and create purposeful international engagement and networks. Devising an global focused employability campus strategy requires real leadership and intentionality. With this in mind, a highlight of this year’s Summits will enable each attendee to create a framework for employability strategic plan – one that will leverage connections and collective learning.
While this year’s Summits will be filled with learning, planning and networking – they will also be fun! We’ve built in time to explore Shanghai and our Hong Kong Summit will feature our popular Tram Tour of the downtown business district. So come join the international employability movement with us! #GCEmployabilitySummits
